ENGLISH:
Renzo Arbore and Luciano De Crescenzo aimlessly wander the streets of Rome aboard a flashy American convertible, while trying unsuccessfully to elaborate original ideas for a new film. Because of a providential traffic light placed in a street without intersections, the two find themselves standing under the window of Federico Fellini intent on writing the screenplay of F.F.S.S., or Federico Fellini Sud Story. A gust of wind causes a large part of the script to fall into the street, which the two scramble to collect and immediately make their own the idea of the master. Thus began filming of FFSS, Renzo Arbore interprets Onliù Caporetto, an irish impresario who tries to bring to success Lucia Canaria, an overseer of public toilets equipped, he said, loud (“si nun canta, more”), and Neapoletanite sickness (which Onliù Caporetto takes care of with a slice of Milan’s panettone and with the Turin-Mirafiori smog). After a performance at the battered local television Tele Ottaviano, on the advice of expert or presumed people who suggest that they go to the cities where the music scene is most fervent, the two embark on a perennial pilgrimage to Italy. To try their luck, they go first to Milan, where they know two characters who have the surname of two places known for a Risorgimento battle, Curtatone and Montanara, then return to Rome in search of a recommendation to enter the RAI, finally in Sanremo in occasion of the 1983 Sanremo Festival, in the edition in which Raffaella Carrà sings Soli sul luna and Ahi. Every time Lucia finds herself acting as the cabin overseer. In their wanderings, the two invariably run into Sheikh Beige, inventor of the so-called “arabian sound” and musical star of the moment, who tries to advise them in the worst way possible, and who must participate in the kermesse song with the song The Pill. In the end the three decide to ally and end up messing up the quiet singing event: at the end, Lucia manages to sing on the stage of Sanremo the song Southern, written by Arbore, along with an improvised choir.
