Bologna, 2002.
ENGLISH:
Bologna, 2002. The protest against the labor reform explodes in the universities. The murder of a labor lawyer reopens old political wounds between Italy and France. Marco, ex-terrorist, convicted of murder and refugee in France for 20 years is suspected of being the instigator of the attack. When the Italian government asks for his extradition, Marco decides to run away with Viola, his teenage daughter.
Following the murder of a university professor in a terrorist ambush, Marco (Giuseppe Battiston) – a former far-left militant sentenced to life imprisonment and refugee in France thanks to the Mitterrand doctrine – is accused by the Italian state of being one of the ‘brains’ ‘of the attack and extradition is requested. Thus begins Marco’s long flight, together with his daughter Viola (Charlotte Cetaire), which soon turns into a media war made up of letters and interviews. Marco’s arrogance, which leads him to defend himself at all costs, will drag his entire family left in Italy into the mud – his sister Anna (Barbora Boboulova), an Italian teacher in a “good” high school in Bologna, his brother-in-law Riccardo (Fabrizio Ferracane), rising criminal judge, Bianca (Carolina Lanzoni), their 10-year-old daughter and mother Teresa (Elisabetta Piccolomini). Everyone, innocent, will find themselves paying for Marco’s past sins without understanding why.
What emerges is the human and political fresco of a family stumbled into history, forced to face the responsibility of blood ties and the violence of a country that cannot – and does not want to – forget or forgive.
After the war it is a reflection on guilt, on violence that returns, on the inability to look at oneself when private pain merges with public pain.
With a look full of compassion towards her characters, torn and blinded by their ideals, the author tells us about a past, never forgiven or forgotten, which returns predominantly in the present, forever conditioning the lives of a family that has become a victim of itself. itself.
