A classic of universal literature, dating back to the early 14th century, I fioritti di San Francesco re-proposes the life and works of one of Christianity’s most famous saints. It is in fact a collection of popular legends about the life of St. Francis of Assisi and his followers, the work of one or more anonymous Tuscan authors. Critics have recently ascertained that it is not the translation of an ancient lost foil, but the translation of a larger collection of legends, written by Ugolino da Montegiorgio between 1327 and 1340. Composed of 53 chapters, this extraordinary collection is can divide into two parts. The first tells the life of Francis, the birth of the Franciscan order and the teachings of Franciscanism. The second part is dedicated to the successors of the Poverello of Assisi, the friars from the Marches who spread his life lesson. The little flowers of St. Francis are striking for the purity of religious sentiment, for the spiritual emotion that shines through and for the ever-present message: everything and every creature, even the humblest, must be welcomed with joy, as an expression of love infinity of God.
The apparitions of Our Lady of Medjugorje are the longest in history: they have lasted without interruption for almost thirty years. And from the beginning, in June 1981, they have been accompanied by messages in which the Virgin, who presents herself as the Queen of Peace, invites prayer and conversion. This volume collects the largest part of the messages, those “dictated” by Our Lady to the seer Marija Pavlovic, addressed to the parish of Medjugorje and, through it, to all humanity. The Mother of God reaches us every month with her sweet but firm reminders: at the end of 2009 there were 425 messages, from 1 March 1984 to 8 January 1987 on a weekly basis every Thursday (149 messages in all), later on 25 each month (276 messages, up to 25 December 2009). Here you will find them gathered in fifteen “items”, corresponding to as many keywords related to the apparitions. It seemed to us the most practical way to meditate and “live” every day the messages that the Virgin is giving us in this “time of grace”: offered to the reader one per page, they constitute an extraordinary help to open oneself to hope, in a world that needs to look to the future with confidence.
