ENGLISH:
It is the epic story of one of the many Sicilian families against the backdrop of the largest migratory exodus in modern history. Carmela Carrizzo, 30 years old, beautiful and courageous, is in love with her husband Salvatore with whom she had four children cultivating the land of a noble whose “capeddu” Spanò is an unscrupulous man and manager of the company. But Spanò has always hated Salvatore and this is the starting point for the tragic events, the disappointments and attempts at redemption that will mark the existence, first in Italy and then in New York, of Carmela, the “mother courage” always ready to fight for the promised life to herself and her family
The pathos of maternal melodrama and the gangster movie, the topicality of the immigration theme: through the private and personal events of the Rizzo family, a fresco of the time is traced, from the point of view of Italian-Americans.
The promised life is a series set in the twenties and thirties that tells of our past and ends up talking about the present.
The story of a Sicilian family in the New York of Prohibition and the great crisis of ’29, which starts from the pain of a miserable and violent South and arrives at the domestic warmth and seductions of the famous Little Italy, the suburb of Italian emigration in Manhattan.
The stories of Carmela and her children, small stories with exceptional feelings, tell the difficulty of integrating into a hostile culture and at the same time the struggle for the conquest of a social position.
