LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL

This 1997 film cannot be recommended highly enough. It’s set in 1930’s Italy, in the midst of WWII. A carefree Jewish book keeper, Guido, starts a fairy tale life by courting and marrying a lovely women from a nearby city in which he greets her with the infamous line “Buongiorno Principessa”. Guido and his wife have a son and live happily together until the occupation of Italy by German forces. In trying to hold his family together and help his son survive the horrors of a Jewish Concentration Camp, Guildo imagines that the Holocaust is a game and that the grand prize for winning is a tank.
