Sofia spent her childhood with her grandparents in poverty, when there was no bread and she even ate apricot pits; her adolescence was marked by the difficult relationship with her father Riccardo, the strong presence of her mother Romilda, who bestowed upon her her dreams of becoming an actress, and her sister Maria, who grew up in Sofia’s shadow. Today, we almost tend to take her success for granted, yet many sacrifices led her to realize her dream. Also because of her love affair with Carlo Ponti, which has spawned rivers of ink, few know how much insult and suffering she endured. Sofia now lives in Geneva, but as a true cosmopolitan woman, she has lived in dream homes in London, New York, and Paris, while cherishing in her heart the memory of “the most beautiful house in the world,” the 18th-century villa in Marino.
