Un imprenditore, che scarica liquami tossici nei canali d’irrigazione del campo di un contadino, viene ricattato con foto compromettenti. Il ricattatore gli impone di chiudere gli impianti di scarico se non vuole che la moglie apprenda della sua relazione extraconiugale. L’imprenditore si rivolge ai carabinieri, che subito sospettano del contadino proprietario del campo e della sua legale. I due sono parrocchiani di Don Matteo e il prete si dà da fare per aiutarli. Mentre tutte le piste sono ancora aperte, il figlio dell’imprenditore rimane avvelenato dall’acqua inquinata.

An entrepreneur, who dumps toxic sewage into the irrigation canals of a farmer’s field, is blackmailed with compromising photos. The blackmailer forces him to close the sewage systems if he doesn’t want his wife to learn about his extramarital affair. The entrepreneur turns to the carabinieri, who immediately suspect the farmer who owns the field and his lawyer. The two are parishioners of Don Matteo and the priest works hard to help them. While all the slopes are still open, the entrepreneur’s son is poisoned by the polluted water.

Father Matteo: a unique priest and an extraordinary detective. A “special” investigator whose profound knowledge of the human soul guides him through the crooked meanders of crime.
