Ciccio e Franco, inservienti in un bagno pubblico di New York, salvano accidentalmente la vita ad Attanasia, il boss della malavita, assalito dagli uomini di Tristano, rivale del suo rivale. Per gratitudine, Attanasia decide di fare di Franco un grande pugile e di affidare a Ciccio il ruolo di secondo: con una serie di incontri truccati, riesce nel suo intento. Nel frattempo, Attanasia si riappacifica con Tristano e insieme scommettono una grossa somma sulla sconfitta di Franco: ma questi riescono a vincere per una serie di incidenti. I due gangster, convinti di essere stati presi in giro l’uno dall’altro, muoiono in una sparatoria, mentre Ciccio e Franco vengono accusati del loro omicidio. Pur riconosciuti innocenti, Ciccio e Franco, temendo di essere condannati alla sedia elettrica, si barricano nella cella dove trascorreranno l’ultimo anno di vita.

Ciccio and Franco, orderlies in a daytime bath in New York, accidentally save the lives of Attanasia, the underworld king, assailed by the men of Tristan, a rival of his rival. Out of gratitude, Attanasia decides to make Franco a great boxeur and Ciccio his second: with a series of match-rigged meetings he succeeds in his intent. Meanwhile, Attanasia reconciles with Tristano and together they bet a big figure on Franco’s defeat: but these manages to win for a series of accidents. The two gangsters, convinced they have been mocked by each other, die in a shooting while Ciccio and Franco are accused of killing them. Although recognized as innocent, Ciccio and Franco, fearing being taken to the electric chair, barricade themselves in the cell where they will remain to age.
