Antonio e Felice, mettendo a profitto l’abilità di trasformisti appresa sui palcoscenici d’avanspet-tacolo, vivono ricorrendo a mille e mille espedienti, sempre ai margini dell’illegalità e sempre col timore che Armando Malvasia, ex compagno di scuola di Antonio ed ora commissario di polizia, finisca per coglierli con le mani nel sacco. Antonio è truffatore non per vocazione ma per affetto paterno: mantiene infatti una figlia, Diana, in un collegio di prim’ordine, all’oscuro delle attività truffaldine del padre. Un giorno la ragazza, stanca della disciplina, fugge dall’istituto e in un ritrovo notturno s’innamora di Franco, un giovanotto attorno al quale Antonio sta tendendo le sue reti. Il truffatore ha però fatto un’infelicissima scelta: Franco, infatti, è il figlio del commissario Malvasia. Tutto però si accomoda poiché il giovanotto, innamorato a sua volta di Diana, prende a benvolere anche il futuro suocero e lo aiuta a porre riparo all’ultima sua truffa. La conclusione è delle più rosee. Un’insperata, cospicua eredità dà modo ad Antonio e Felice di compiere l’ultima e più fortunata delle loro trasformazioni, tramutandoli in due autentici e spensierati milionari.

Antonio and Felice, capitalizing on the quick-change skills they learned on the vaudeville stage, live by a thousand tricks, always on the fringes of illegality and always fearful that Armando Malvasia, Antonio’s former classmate and now police commissioner, will catch them red-handed. Antonio is a con man not by vocation but by paternal affection: he supports his daughter, Diana, in a first-rate boarding school, unaware of her father’s fraudulent activities. One day, the girl, tired of the discipline, runs away from the school and at a night club falls in love with Franco, a young man around whom Antonio is setting his nets. However, the con man has made a very unfortunate choice: Franco, in fact, is the son of Commissioner Malvasia. But everything turns out well, as the young man, himself in love with Diana, also takes a liking to his future father-in-law and helps him unravel his latest scam. The outcome is a rosy one. An unexpected, substantial inheritance enables Antonio and Felice to achieve their final and most fortunate transformation, turning them into two genuine, carefree millionaires.
