Leo, figlio irrequieto di Luciano, una notte spara alcuni colpi di fucile sulla saracinesca di un bar protetto da un clan locale, in quel di Africo nel cuore dell’Aspromonte.
Una provocazione come risposta a un’altra provocazione. Un atto intimidatorio, ma anche un gesto oltraggioso che il ragazzo immagina come prova di coraggio e affermazione d’identita’ nei confronti del clan rivale e nei confronti del padre, maggiore di tre fratelli, dedito alla cura degli animali e dei morti, e lontano dalla cultura delle faide. I fratelli di Luciano hanno preso altre strade lontano da Africo, in una Milano permeata di affari criminali lungo la rotta della droga tra l’Olanda e la Calabria. Dopo la provocazione notturna, Leo deve e vuole cambiare aria, e raggiunge lo zio Luigi, il piu’ giovane dei tre fratelli, spavaldo nel correre su e giu’ per l’Europa stingendo patti “commerciali” con cartelli sudamericani, e lo zio Rocco, ormai trapianto a Milano con aria e moglie borghese, arricchito proprio dai proventi di quei traffici internazionali. L’eco della bravata di Leo giunge in quel di Milano e risveglia la mai sopita attrazione per la vendetta, la faida in un misto di orgoglio represso dal benessere, o da esso alimentato sotto mentite spoglie. Il fratello maggiore infatti viene richiamato bonariamente dal boss del clan rivale, e umiliato nel suo essere uomo, primogenito, padre di famiglia. I fratelli si mettono in viaggio verso il loro Sud, la loro terra, sentendo il richiamo di una cultura antica, richiamo fatale a un destino immutabile che punta dritto verso la tragedia, senza scampo.

Leo, the restless son of Luciano, one night fires a few shots on the shutter of a bar protected by a local clan, in that of Africo in the heart of the Aspromonte.
A provocation as a response to another provocation. An intimidating act, but also an outrageous gesture that the boy imagines as proof of courage and affirmation of identity towards the rival clan and towards his father, the eldest of three brothers, dedicated to the care of animals and the dead, and far away from the culture of feuds. Luciano’s brothers took other roads away from Africo, in a Milan permeated with criminal affairs along the drug route between Holland and Calabria. After the nocturnal provocation, Leo must and wants to change the air, and joins his uncle Luigi, the youngest of the three brothers, bold in running up and down Europe, drawing “commercial” pacts with South American signs, and his uncle Rocco , now transplanted to Milan with a bourgeois air and wife, enriched by the proceeds of those international traffic. The echo of Leo’s bravado reaches that of Milan and awakens the never dormant attraction for revenge, the feud in a mixture of pride repressed by well-being, or fed by it in disguise. In fact, the elder brother is good-naturedly recalled by the boss of the rival clan, and humiliated in his being a man, eldest son, father of a family. The brothers set out on a journey to their South, their land, feeling the call of an ancient culture, a fatal call to an immutable destiny that points straight towards tragedy, with no escape.
