Bellezza e identità sono valori che la Calabria si è vista riconoscere dai viaggiatori del Grand Tour, così come dai visitatori di oggi, capace com’è di racchiudere, nei pochi chilometri che separano il mare dalle montagne, un intero universo. Un universo che qui è raccontato sotto forma di itinerario fotografico affidato ai colori, scelti per svolgere la funzione di guida ideale e pretesto narrativo, con l’intenzione di mostrare almeno alcuni dei tanti tratti salienti che connotano questa terra e la rendono speciale. Con le parole di Maria Brandon-Albini, una delle ultime viaggiatrici ad aver attraversato una Calabria con ancora un piede nel suo passato: (Là, più che in qualunque altra parte, credo, la natura sembra aver materializzato i miti trasformandoli in terra, acqua, sole, rocce e luce). È trascorso più di mezzo secolo, ma la luce sembra essere quella stessa che ha illuminato i soggetti delle quasi duecento fotografie che compongono questo libro. Il lavoro è completato da testi originali, che tendono a svelare le sensazioni più profonde indotte dalla visione delle immagini, e da didascalie, che invece intendono orientare il lettore descrivendo, se necessario, il soggetto di una singola foto e indicandone la posizione geografica

Beauty and identity are values ​​that Calabria has seen recognized by travelers on the Grand Tour, as well as by today’s visitors, capable as it is of enclosing, in the few kilometers that separate the sea from the mountains, an entire universe. A universe that is told here in the form of a photographic itinerary entrusted to the colours, chosen to perform the function of ideal guide and narrative pretext, with the intention of showing at least some of the many salient features that characterize this land and make it special. In the words of Maria Brandon-Albini, one of the last travelers to have crossed a Calabria with one foot still in its past: «There, more than anywhere else, I believe, nature seems to have materialized the myths, transforming them into earth, water , sun, rocks and light». More than half a century has passed, but the light seems to be the same that illuminated the subjects of the nearly two hundred photographs that make up this book. The work is completed by original texts, which tend to reveal the deepest sensations induced by the vision of the images, and by captions, which instead intend to orient the reader by describing, if necessary, the subject of a single photo and indicating its geographical position
