“Mi sento inquieta, non riesco a stare ferma, quindi vado nello studio. A fare cosa ancora non so.
ENGLISH:
“I feel restless, I can’t stay still, so I go to the study. I still don’t know what to do. I stare at the shelf, move the books, as if I were looking for something, and I’m almost starting to get nervous, when I glimpse a dark wooden box And a sinking heart. In an instant, letters, telegrams, tickets, photographs flow before my eyes”. These are the words of Sophia Loren, our most beloved actress, who until now had never been told in a book. But perhaps it was the approach of an important birthday, or the chance of finding a box of letters and photographs, which now prompted her to do so. Thus was born this autobiography in which the life of a thin and dark little girl unfolds, an insecure girl but so beautiful “to make the dead resurrect”, a young Neapolitan who conquers the world in a few years. That of Sophia Loren, more than a story, looks like a fairy tale, including dances, great trials and princes charming. And yet, behind the star, smiles a shy and determined woman who has suffered a lot, worked a lot, loved with authentic passion, always tinged with irony. It is she who takes us back to her war-torn Pozzuoli, to the Cinecittà of the first American blockbusters, to De Sica’s Naples in black and white. But he also takes us behind the scenes, where his heart beats as a wife, mother, grandmother, around the family that he has always considered his best film.
The autobiography is its own official version, whoever writes it tells what they think best about themselves and it is their right to do so – readers have the right to have an opinion on that portrait.
Sophia Loren did well to write this book because she has a past full of events and important people for her and for history, and it doesn’t matter if some formalism emerges here and there.
Sophia Loren wrote her autobiography with simplicity and elegance, letting the facts of which her life is full speak for themselves, and this makes “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” a book worthy of staying and being read by everyone, but above all by young.
