3 gennaio 1982. Sergio è a Venezia, dove ha messo insieme un gruppo per attaccare il carcere di Rovigo e far evadere quattro detenute tra le quali Susanna, la donna che ama e con cui ha condiviso idee e scelte politiche. Mentre il gruppo si avvicina al carcere, Sergio ricorda gli inizi della clandestinità, il passaggio alle armi e l’incontro con Susanna. Intanto la giornata del 3 gennaio volge al culmine: il gruppo è arrivato a Rovigo, all’interno del carcere Susanna e le altre attendono l’ora fissata. Un’esplosione fa saltare in aria il muro di cinta e comincia l’assalto. Susanna e Sergio si ritrovano, l’evasione è riuscita ma non tutto andrà come previsto… Interpreti: Riccardo Scamarcio, Giovanna Mezzogiorno, Fabrizio Rongione, Michele Alhaique, Jacopo Bicocchi, Dario Aita, Angelo Campolo.

Dopo un periodo abbastanza lungo in cui il cinema italiano non si è interessato ai suoi “anni di piombo” o ha solo scalfito la superficie, diversi film hanno rotto il silenzio in pochi anni. Che questo periodo e l’attività rivoluzionaria e terroristica costituiscono tutto ( di Marco Bellocchio) o parte ( di Marco Tullio Giordana) del film.

I tumultuosi eventi politici della fine degli anni Sessanta che travolsero l’Europa lasciarono un segno particolare in Italia. Dalle proteste studentesche del 1968 nacquero le Brigate Rosse radicali, impegnate nel rovesciamento violento dello Stato. Prima Linea era un’altra organizzazione terroristica italiana, fondata alla fine degli anni Settanta e ancora più estrema nei suoi metodi. Credendo in un colpo di stato da parte di elementi di destra, un giovane italiano, Sergio Segio, si dà alla clandestinità, convinto che l’uso della violenza sia una scelta necessaria. Lì incontra l’altrettanto impegnata Susanna, se ne innamora e continua a combattere la brutale battaglia di un estremista politico. Alla fine, Sergio rimane disincantato dalle tattiche della Prima Linea, ma quando Susanna viene catturata, ricorre ai metodi che ha imparato come militante per cercare di farla uscire di prigione.

Sergio is in Venice, where he has put together a group to attack the Rovigo prison and break out four inmates, including Susanna, the woman he loves and with whom he has shared ideas and political choices. As the group approaches the prison, Sergio remembers the beginnings of the clandestinity, taking up arms and meeting Susanna. Meanwhile, the day of January 3rd is coming to a climax: the group has arrived in Rovigo, inside the Susanna prison and the others are waiting for the appointed time. An explosion blows up the surrounding wall and the assault begins. An Italian man looks back from his jail cell on his youthful exploits as a political extremist with understanding, candour and remorse.

After a fairly long time during which Italian cinema was not interested in its “lead years” or only scratched the surface, several films have broken the silence in a few years. That this period and revolutionary and terrorist activity constitute the whole ( by Marco Bellocchio) or part ( by Marco Tullio Giordana) of the movie.

The tumultuous political events of the late sixties that swept across Europe left a particular mark on Italy. The radical Red Brigades, committed to the violent overthrow of the State, were formed out of the student protests of 1968. Prima Linea was another Italian terrorist organization, founded in the late seventies and even more extreme in its methods. Believing there would be a coup by right-wing elements, a young Italian man, Sergio Segio, goes underground, convinced the use of violence is a necessary choice. There he meets the equally committed Susanna, falls in love and continues to fight the brutal battle of a political extremist. Eventually, Sergio grows disenchanted with the tactics of the Prima Linea, but when Susanna is captured, he resorts to the methods he has learned as a militant to try to spring her from prison.
