Come ogni anno per le vacanze di Natale, in una prospera cittadina dellItalia centrale, la famiglia Colapietro  due sorelle, due fratelli, con i rispettivi coniugi e figli a seguito  si riunisce in una casa dei vecchi genitori ottantenni. Le vacanze iniziano a scorrere, come sempre, in una dolce intimità familiare condita di facezie, pettegolezzi, ricordi, amenità, finché, durante il pranzo di Natale fulmine a ciel sereno! Nonna Trieste annuncia che, essendo ormai troppo vecchi, lei e il nonno vorrebbero essere accolti a casa di uno dei figli, decidano loro quale. In un batter docchio tutta lipocrita solidarietà familiare si frantuma. Accuse reciproche, scarico di responsabilità, rinfaccio di colpe, invidie, gelosie e, soprattutto, nessuno è disposto a prendersi i vecchi genitori. La fine delle vacanze è prossima quando lapparentemente impossibile soluzione viene suggerita da una notizia del telegiornale

ENGLISH:

Like every year for the Christmas holidays, in a prosperous town in central Italy, the Colapietro family – two sisters, two brothers, with their respective spouses and children – gather in the house of their eighty-year-old parents. The holidays begin to flow, as always, in a sweet family intimacy peppered with jokes, gossip, memories, pleasantries, until, during Christmas lunch – a bolt from the blue! Grandma Trieste announces that, being too old now, she and her grandfather would like to be welcomed into the home of one of the children, they decide which one. In the blink of an eye, all the hypocritical family solidarity is shattered. Mutual accusations, passing of responsibility, blaming, envy, jealousy and, above all, no one is willing to take in the old parents. The end of the holidays is near when the seemingly impossible solution is suggested by a news item on the television news
