Contravvenendo agli ordini del Governatore, Figaro serve i suoi clienti anche la Domenica. Mentre è intento a radere un gentiluomo, innamorato della figlia del predetto Governatore, vengono le guardie, che impongono al barbiere ribelle il pagamento d’una grossa multa. Il gentiluomo interviene: pagherà lui la multa, purchè Figaro lo aiuti aconquistare la sua bella. Il Governatore ha promesso la mano di sua figlia a Don Juan, capo delle guardie, benchè la fanciulla sia contraria a tali nozze: del nobile spasimante il Governatore non vuol sentir parlare. Dopo infinite disavventure, Figaro, la sera prima del giorno stabilito per le nozze, organizza una rappresentazione, che finisce con un matrimonio. Alla fine dello spettacolo, Figaro fa in modo che gli attori che rappresentano gli sposi vengano sostituiti dalla figlia del Governatore e dal suo spasimante. Così i due innamorati vengono uniti in matrimonio. Il Governatore dà la caccia a Figaro, che si nasconde nella bocca d’un cannone: quando il cannone spara, Figaro viene proiettato sulla soglia della sua bottega. E’ domenica: le guardie lo arrestano. Intervengono gli sposi che lo fanno liberare.

Contrary to the Governor’s orders, Figaro serves his customers even on Sundays. While he is shaving a gentleman in love with the Governor’s daughter, the guards arrive and demand a large fine from the rebellious barber. The gentleman intervenes: he will pay the fine himself, provided Figaro helps him win his beloved. The Governor has promised his daughter’s hand in marriage to Don Juan, the head of the guards, even though the girl is opposed to such a marriage: the Governor will not hear of her noble suitor. After countless misadventures, Figaro, the evening before the wedding day, organizes a performance, which ends in a wedding. At the end of the performance, Figaro arranges for the actors playing the newlyweds to be replaced by the Governor’s daughter and her suitor. Thus, the two lovers are united in marriage. The Governor hunts down Figaro, who is hiding in the mouth of a cannon. When the cannon fires, Figaro is thrown onto the threshold of his shop. It’s Sunday; the guards arrest him. The newlyweds intervene and free him.
