Un portiere napoletano, che è ciabattino, ha una particolare e piuttosto confidenziale devozione per un quadro del Battista Decollato. I festeggiamenti alquanto rumorosi e i riti piuttosto originali che il balzano uomo organizza nel cortile del casamento, in omaggio alla sacra icona, danno luogo a contrasti e liti tra i coinquilini e persino tra il portiere e la sua linguacciuta consorte. La loro figlia, che è segretamente fidanzata con uno studente, viene promessa dal padre ad un giovane, protetto da un mafioso. Ma la ragazza fugge con il suo fidanzato in casa dei futuri suoceri e invita i suoi genitori ad assistere alle nozze. Il ciabattino parte immediatamente con la moglie, seguito però dal terribile mafioso, che vuol fare giustizia sommaria. Alla fine il ciabattino mette a posto il prepotente, i due fidanzati si sposano in letizia e i litigiosi genitori si riappacificano definitivamente al cospetto del venerato quadro di S. Giovanni.

ENGLISH:

A Neapolitan doorman, who is also a cobbler, has a particular and rather confidential devotion to a painting of St. John the Baptist Beheaded. The rather noisy celebrations and the rather original rituals that the eccentric man organizes in the courtyard of his building, in homage to the sacred icon, give rise to conflicts and arguments among the housemates and even between the doorman and his loud-mouthed wife. Their daughter, who is secretly engaged to a student, is promised by her father to a young man protected by a mafioso. But the girl runs away with her fiancé to her future in-laws’ house and invites her parents to attend the wedding. The cobbler immediately leaves with his wife, but is followed by the terrifying mafioso, who intends to mete out summary justice. In the end, the cobbler puts the bully in his place, the two engaged couples happily marry, and the bickering parents finally make peace in the presence of the venerated painting of St. John.
