La bellissima Miranda è felicemente sposata con Mariano da dieci anni e insieme gestiscono un banco di frutta e verdura al mercato di Anghiari, un piccolo paese della Toscana. I due sono complici e innamorati come fidanzati e la loro unione sembra indissolubile. Di passaggio in paese Andrea, un grande fotografo, immortala per caso la bellezza dell’ignara Miranda e propone al direttore del giornale per cui lavora di utilizzare proprio la sua bellezza, quella di una donna normale, per realizzare un calendario. Il calendario ha un enorme successo e Mariano teme che la donna della sua vita possa cambiare.

Maddalena Cecconi, wife of a master builder, has an only daughter, Maria, an eight-year-old girl, whom she adores. Mary is not beautiful but in her mother’s eyes she is beautiful and Magdalene would like a splendid future for her. When the Stella Film announces a competition between the girls of Rome for the interpretation of a new film at Cinecittà, Maddalena decides to let her Maria participate in the competition and sacrifices time and money to prepare it properly. In Cinecittà, while he is anxiously searching for Maria who is lost in the labyrinth of buildings and offices, she runs into a certain Annovazzi, an assistant to the director, who, in exchange for his help, manages to extract the last fifty thousand lire from her. Finally, the moment of the audition arrives, but when the image of little Maria is projected in the room, the director and the aides, seeing her so embarrassed and clumsy, burst into laughter. Magdalene, who sees everything from the operator’s cabin, burns with indignation and, after having made a violent scene, takes the little girl away. In vain does the director, who has discovered uncommon expressive skills in the child, submit her an advantageous contract. The illusions have now fallen and Maddalena has the intruder chased away. She will keep her baby girl for herself and her husband.
