Alberto è un giovane biondissimo, dai modi effeminati ed infantili; sciocco, al limite della stupidità; invadente con il prossimo, ma timidissimo con la signorina Margherita, di cui è follemente innamorato. Vive solo, frequenta l’oratorio della parrocchia di Don Isidoro e si guadagna da vivere vendendo meccanismi antifurto. Margherita è corteggiata anche da Arturo, giovane prestante e romantico, con il quale Alberto ingaggia un duello a distanza per attirare l’attenzione della ragazza.

La sua ingenua sciocchezza lo rende simpatico a Margherita, che pare divertita dalle sue stramberie; ma lo rende insopportabile agli altri. Dopo una serie di disavventure Alberto decide di sfidare Arturo sul suo terreno: la maratonina di Roma, gara di marcia di 25 km. Chiede i soldi per l’iscrizione a Don Isidoro e in cambio gli promette che devolverà l’eventuale vincita di 100 000 Lire per l’acquisto del presepe che da tempo il parroco desidera. Nel primo giro del tracciato si comporta abbastanza bene, rimanendo nel gruppo di testa; nel secondo, approfitta della confusione creata da un ingorgo per fare un pezzo di strada in autobus; nel terzo, sempre bloccato dal traffico e dai vigili, viene soccorso da Don Isidoro che lo porta in bici fino a pochi metri dal traguardo, ma lo lascia per errore dalla parte opposta. Così Alberto e Arturo tagliano il traguardo insieme, ciascuno al comando di un gruppo di atleti, ma venendo uno da destra e l’altro da sinistra. Ne nasce una rissa e la corsa viene annullata, con sgomento del parroco. È la fine del sogno: Margherita rimane col suo Arturo e Alberto torna alla vita di prima.

Alberto is a young blond, with effeminate and infantile ways; foolish, at the limit of stupidity; intimidating with her neighbor,
 but shy with Miss Margherita, whom she is madly in love with. 
He lives alone, attends the oratory of Don Isidoro's parish and earns himself living by selling anti-theft mechanisms. 
Margherita is also courting by Arturo, a young and romantic girl, 
with whom Alberto hires a distance duel to attract the attention of the girl.

His naughty nonsense makes him sympathetic to Margherita, who seems amused by her dreads; but it makes it unbearable to others. 
After a series of misadventures Alberto decides to challenge Arturo on his ground: the marathon of Rome, 25km race course. 
He asks for the money for signing up for Don Isidoro and in return he promises that he will hand over the possible 100,000 Lire
for the purchase of the crib that the pastor has long wanted. In the first lap of the track it behaves pretty well,
remaining in the head group; in the second, take advantage of the confusion created by a traffic jam to make a piece of street bus;
in the third, always blocked by traffic and watchmen, is rescued by Don Isidoro who takes him to the bike just a few yards 
from the finish line, but leaves him by mistake on the opposite side. So Alberto and Arturo cut the finish line together, 
each at the command of a group of athletes, but coming from one right and the other from the left.
A brawl is born and the race is canceled, with the parish priest's dismay. It's the end of the dream: 
Margherita remains with her Arturo and Alberto back to life before.
