Oronzo Canà, allenatore della mitica Longobarda, pur se a malincuore, non allena più da vari anni. Ora ha un’azienda agricola e produce olio d’oliva assieme alla sempre aristocratica moglie Mara. Una sera l’ex mister è invitato ad una trasmissione sportiva. La Longobarda è appena stata promossa in serie A, non per meriti sportivi, ma per inadempienze finanziarie della sua diretta concorrente e Canà è stato invitato come testimone della “mitica” Longobarda di vent’anni prima. Durante il talk show, un giornalista ricorda che allora, nonostante Canà fosse riuscito a salvare la squadra dalla retrocessione, venne esonerato. Messo alle strette, Canà rivela il vero motivo di quell’esonero: nel vincere l’ultima partita, quella che aveva permesso la permanenza della Longobarda in serie A, Canà disubbidì ad una richiesta del vecchio presidente Borlotti, che voleva retrocedere in serie B perché non riusciva a reggere i costi della serie A. Con questa sua dichiarazione, Canà diventa il primo testimone diretto di scomode verità sul calcio. Inaspettatamente Borlotti e Ramenko, il suo socio russo, gli propongono di allenare la squadra nel prossimo campionato di serie A, per darsi un’immagine di specchiata onestà. Canà accetta e si trasferisce, pieno di entusiasmo, nel Nord Italia. Il suo sogno s’è realizzato: tornerà ad allenare e proprio la mitica Longobarda.

Oronzo Canà, coach of the legendary Lombard, albeit reluctantly, hasn’t coached for several years. Now he has a farm and produces olive oil together with his always aristocratic wife Mara. One evening the former coach is invited to a sports broadcast. Longobarda has just been promoted to Serie A, not for sporting merits, but due to financial defaults of her direct competitor and Canà has been invited as a witness to the “legendary” Longobarda of twenty years earlier. During the talk show, a journalist recalls that at the time, despite Canà having managed to save the team from relegation, he was sacked. Cornered, Canà reveals the real reason for that exemption: in winning the last game, the one that had allowed the Longobard to remain in Serie A, Canà disobeyed a request from the old president Borlotti, who wanted to relegate to Serie B because he could not bear the costs of Serie A. With this statement of his, Canà becomes the first direct witness of uncomfortable truths about football. Unexpectedly Borlotti and Ramenko, his Russian partner, offer him to coach the team in the next Serie A championship, to give themselves a reflection of honesty. Canà accepts and moves, full of enthusiasm, to Northern Italy. His dream has come true: he will return to coaching and the legendary Longobard.
