Italia, qualunque posto negli anni Ottanta. Tre balordi si imbattono in un hotel fuori mano, fuori posto: un rifugio ai confini del mondo. Ma questa non è solo la loro storia. Perché al Bellevue Hotel esistono altri ospiti, respiri o pianti dietro una porta dai numeri consumati, gesti d’amore o di disperazione, voci sussurrate o urla. Nell’intreccio di ciascuna di queste storie le pareti si annullano e le porte si aprono, svelando il filo che lega i destini di tutti gli ospiti.
Una commedia virata di scuro, dai risvolti inaspettati e sorprendenti.

Aspettando il sole, primo lungometraggio del regista pubblicitario Ago Panini ne è un validissimo esempio. Già dalla sua prima inquadratura sembra veniamo introdotti nella peggior retorica di tutti i tempi, accompagnata per l’ennesima volta dal bellissimo e inflazionato Notturno di Chopin (il quale si starà eternamente rivoltando nella tomba per come la sua composizione viene sfruttata malamente). La base della storia è già sentita: in un albergo ai confini del mondo, in questo caso la provincia italiana così oggetto delle cronache degli ultimi anni, si consumano i momenti fondamentali della vita di molte persone fino a che l’intero edificio non crolla e tutti coloro che vi si trovano all’interno non vedono la “luce”! Le vicende dei personaggi sono da manuale:

l’uomo di mezza età in crisi perché la sua donna è rimasta incinta e ha abortito senza farglielo sapere, il regista frustrato di film porno il cui sogno nel cassetto è fare un film d’autore, un esordiente attore di film per adulti gentiluomo che fa innamorare di se la collega “navigata” incontrata sul set, il solitario che nella sua camera nasconde un cane e forse un terribile segreto, il rapinatore un po’ ottuso, una donna che uccide accidentalmente il suo amante, ma poi scopre che lui quella notte le avrebbe fatto la stessa cosa, ma di proposito ecc

Italy, any place in the 1980s. Three fools come across an out-of-the-way hotel, out of place: a refuge on the edge of the world. But this is not just their story. Because at the Bellevue Hotel there are other guests, you breathe or cry behind a door with worn out numbers, gestures of love or desperation, whispered voices or screams. In the intertwining of each of these stories, the walls cancel each other out and the doors open, revealing the thread that binds the destinies of all guests.
A darkly turned comedy, with unexpected and surprising implications.

Waiting for the sun, the first feature film by advertising director Ago Panini, is a very good example of this. From its first shot it seems we are being introduced into the worst rhetoric of all time, accompanied for the umpteenth time by Chopin’s beautiful and inflated Nocturne (who will be eternally turning in his grave for how badly its composition is exploited). The basis of the story is already felt: in a hotel on the edge of the world, in this case the Italian province so the subject of the news in recent years, the fundamental moments of the lives of many people are consumed until the entire building collapses and all those who are inside do not see the “light”! The events of the characters are textbook:

The middle-aged man in crisis because his woman got pregnant and had an abortion without letting him know, the frustrated porn filmmaker whose dream is to make an arthouse film, a newcomer adult film actor gentleman who makes the “experienced” colleague she met on the set fall in love with herself, the loner who hides a dog and perhaps a terrible secret in his room, the somewhat obtuse robber, a woman who accidentally kills her lover, but then discovers that he night he would do the same thing to her, but on purpose etc.
