Carlo, giovane geometra, s’innamora di Gabriella, che ha conosciuto in occasione di una gara di nuoto. I due giovani si scambiano promessa di matrimonio, ma i rispettivi padri negano loro il consenso. Antonio, padre di Gabriella, è un ricco pasticcere, mentre Giuseppe, padre di Carlo, è da oltre trent’anni impiegato dello Stato. La diversa mentalità, i temperamenti contrastanti provocano fieri dissidi, non permettendo ai due di venire ad un accordo. Per indurli a rinunciare alla loro ostinata opposizione, i due giovani fingono di fuggire insieme e lo stratagemma ottiene l’effetto desiderato. Mentre i promessi sposi con i parenti e gli amici si recano in Chiesa, dove verranno celebrate le nozze, Antonio e Giuseppe ricominciano i loro litigi.

ENGLISH:

Carlo, a young surveyor, falls in love with Gabriella, whom he met at a swimming competition. The two young people exchange vows of marriage, but their respective fathers deny them consent. Antonio, Gabriella’s father, is a wealthy pastry chef, while Giuseppe, Carlo’s father, has been a state employee for over thirty years. Their differing mentalities and contrasting temperaments cause fierce disagreements, preventing the two from reaching an agreement. To persuade them to abandon their stubborn opposition, the two young people pretend to run away together, and the ploy achieves the desired effect. While the engaged couple, accompanied by relatives and friends, go to church for the wedding, Antonio and Giuseppe resume their arguments.
