il confronto-scontro tra il mondo degli adulti e quello dei giovani di oggi attraverso lo sguardo disincantato della quattordicenne nina. quando una mattina il suo professore d’italiano alberto – reduce da una furibonda lite con il figlio gigio – assegna alla classe un tema del titolo “genitori e figli: istruzioni per l’uso”, per lei e’ l’occasione di parlare, per la prima volta a cuore aperto, della sua famiglia: dei due genitori, luisa, caposala d’ospedale, e gianni, che ha lasciato moglie e figli per vivere su una barca; dell’amicizia che lega la madre a clara, insospettata amante dell’ex marito, e di quella un po’ particolare con il collega mario; dell’inspiegabile razzismo del fratellino ettore e di una misteriosa nonna che ricompare all’improvviso dopo vent’anni. ma soprattutto nina racconta di se’: delle sue amiche, della prima tragicomica serata in discoteca, delle uscite con i ragazzi piu’ grandi e del suo primo innamoramento. la penna di nina riservera’ non poche sorprese anche ad alberto e a sua moglie rossana che, dalla lettura del tema, scopriranno di gigio cose che in vent’anni non avevano mai nemmeno sospettato.

The confrontation-clash between the world of adults and that of today’s young people through the disenchanted gaze of fourteen-year-old nina. when one morning her Italian teacher alberto – just back from a furious quarrel with his son gigio – assigns a theme to the class with the title “parents and children: instructions for use”, for her it is an opportunity to talk, for the first time with an open heart, of his family: of the two parents, luisa, head nurse of the hospital, and gianni, who left his wife and children to live on a boat; of the friendship that binds the mother to clara, an unsuspected lover of her ex-husband, and of the somewhat particular one with her colleague mario; of the inexplicable racism of the little brother Hector and of a mysterious grandmother who suddenly reappears after twenty years. but above all Nina tells about herself: about her friends, about the first tragicomic night at the disco, about going out with older boys and about her first falling in love. Nina’s pen will also have many surprises in store for alberto and his wife rossana who, from reading the theme, will discover gigio things that in twenty years they had never even suspected.
