Fiction ambientata all’epoca del Ventennio fascista e ispirata ad una storia vera.
Il vicecommissario Giovanni Marotta viene chiamato a Roma per indagare su un furto clamoroso che un gruppo
malavitoso starebbe per compiere. La polizia fascista, fortemente criticata per alcuni gravi insuccessi,
intende utilizzare questo caso per recuperare credibilità. Giovanni riesce ad inserirsi nel losco giro –
spacciandosi per un ricettatore a caccia di grossi affari – grazie all’aiuto di Lulù, una cantante ingenua
e sfortunata. Ma l’investigatore rischia, per colpa di sua moglie, di far saltare la sua copertura.
L’unico a sospettare dell’identità di Marotta è un boss locale, detto l’Americano. Intanto il piano è pronto:
il colpo tanto atteso viene eseguito, la polizia decide al momento di non intervenire. Un gruppo di muratori
che ha lavorato ai cantieri del Vaticano ruba il tesoro di San Pietro e contatta il ricettatore Giovanni Marotta…

Rome is on the thresh-hold of the Holy year 1925, the city wishes to present itself as ‘spotless’ to the outside world.
The appearance of a child’s corpse puts an end to these aspirations. The police arrest a small time crook who has
committed a robbery but has nothing to do with the murder of the child. His ‘fence’ the jeweler BALETTA,
who is also a member of the ruling political party, suggests a deal: the crook goes free and in return Barlett
