Giulia, con tutta la sua famiglia, fa parte dei Testimoni di Geova.
Le regole che l’appartenenza a questo gruppo religioso le impone sono rigide e comportano una separazione
nelle relazioni sentimentali con i non appartenenti alla comunità. Un giorno conosce, durante uno dei
suoi impegni di proselitismo, Libero. È un ragazzo che la colpisce immediatamente e di cui si innamora ma la sorella,
che li sorprende una sera, ne parla con i genitori e la comunità viene subito coinvolta. Giulia viene diffidata
dal continuare a frequentarlo, pena l’allontanamento dalla Chiesa ma decide di non arrendersi.
Ci sono film che meritano attenzione per ciò che raccontano e per come lo fanno. Altri hanno un valore aggiunto particolare.
In questo caso il valore aggiunto ha origine nella modalità produttiva che vede nel Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia
di Roma non solo un co-produttore ma anche, e soprattutto, come l’istituzione che ha formato gran parte di coloro che hanno
contribuito alla realizzazione.
Il tema certo non era dei più semplici da affrontare anche perché sui Testimoni di Geova interviene un immaginario popolare
che li identifica come quelli che suonano ai campanelli per cercare di portare nuovi adepti alla comunità. Il film di Danieli
non manca loro di rispetto anche perché la documentazione che sta a monte della sceneggiatura è corposa. Non siamo dinanzi a
una storia che li vede come i ‘cattivi’ perché anche Libero, che pure è lo strumento di una nuova e definitiva apertura al
mondo da parte di Giulia, non è certo uno stinco di santo.
Quella che il film cerca di andare a proporre non è una vicenda alla Romeo e Giulietta ma piuttosto una lettura di come
l’adesione all’ortodossia religiosa finisca con il trasformarsi in un abbraccio soffocante che, mentre cerca di proteggere
ed elevare spiritualmente, rischia quotidianamente di non comprendere proprio quella realtà che vorrebbe trasformare con la
forza della fede. La luce di Dio deve, per definizione, illuminare. Se la si propone in maniera accecante si può rischiare
di vanificarne la funzione..
