Pinocchio torna in un nuovo adattamento firmato da Matteo Garrone, con il Premio Oscar® Roberto Benigni nei panni di Geppetto e il piccolo Federico Ielapi in quelli del burattino più famoso della storia: un’avventura per tutta la famiglia che riporta sul grande schermo il capolavoro di Carlo Collodi e i suoi indimenticabili personaggi, dal Gatto e la Volpe al Grillo parlante, da Mangiafuoco alla Fata dai capelli turchini.

Questa versione live action italiana del romanzo originale è fantastica. La recitazione e le immagini sono eccellenti e la colonna sonora è meravigliosa. Il film ha quell’atmosfera un po’ ultraterrena che hanno tutte le migliori fiabe.

L’adattamento di Garrone è un vero progetto di passione che desiderava completare da molti anni e si vede in ogni fotogramma dell’immagine. La sua decisione di realizzare quanto più possibile del film utilizzando trucco protesico piuttosto che CGI conferisce al lavoro una qualità luminosa e magica. Le due interpretazioni centrali di Federico Ielapi e Roberto Benigni sono impeccabili e il film è visivamente sbalorditivo.

Garone è tornato in un posto molto più vicino al tono più oscuro di Collodi nella narrazione, piuttosto che al trattamento sdolcinato della Disney. Sebbene abbia ancora ammorbidito i bordi di alcuni aspetti della narrazione (la storia è davvero molto cupa nella sua versione originale) ha mantenuto il senso di Pinocchio come piuttosto incontrollabilmente ribelle piuttosto che semplicemente un po ‘dispettoso.

Pinocchio returns in a new adaptation by Matteo Garrone, with Oscar® winner Roberto Benigni as Geppetto and little Federico Ielapi as the most famous puppet in history: an adventure for the whole family that brings the masterpiece back to the big screen by Carlo Collodi and his unforgettable characters, from the Cat and the Fox to the Talking Cricket, from Mangiafuoco to the Fairy with turquoise hair.

This Italian live action version of the original Novel is fantastic. The acting and visuals and excellent and the music Score is gorgeous.  The film has that slightly other-worldly atmosphere that all the best fairy tales have.

Garrone’s adaptation is a real passion project that he had been wanting to complete for many years, and it shows in every frame of the picture. His decision to execute as much as possible of the film using prosthetic makeup rather than CGI brings a luminous, magical quality to the work. The two central performances by Federico Ielapi and Roberto Benigni are faultless and the film is visually stunning.

Garone has returned to a place much closer to Collodi’s darker tone in the storytelling, rather than the saccahrine treatment of Disney. Whilst he has still softened the edges of some aspects of the narrative (the story is very grim indeed in its original version) he has maintained the sense of Pinocchio as being quite uncontrollably rebellious rather than merely a bit of a mischief.
