La zia Agata ha una pupilla, Adelina, che intende far sposare con suo nipote Totò, per questo in una lettera acclude una fotografia della ragazza. Quando la apre, però, Totò si trova davanti a una sorpresa. La foto è quella di una negra dai capelli crespi. Totò freme e corre a chiedere consiglio ad un amico, che gli suggerisce di sposarsi immediatamente, prima dell’arrivo di questa fantomatica Adelina. Totò allora si mette alla ricerca di una moglie. Il primo tentativo, però, non riesce: Totò allora si rivolge ad un’agenzia che per equivoco lo manda in casa d’una signora sposata. Per scampare alle ire del marito geloso, Totò salta dalla finestra, incorrendo in nuovi guai. All’arrivo di zia Agata, Totò ingaggia una modella perché finga di essere sua moglie, ma la faccenda si ingarbuglia sempre più e Totò non sa proprio come uscirne. Quando però arriva Adelina, non somiglia per niente alla ragazza della foto…

Aunt Agata has a ward, Adelina, whom she intends to marry off to her nephew Totò, so she includes a photograph of the girl in a letter. When he opens it, however, Totò finds a surprise. The photo is of a black woman with frizzy hair. Totò is terrified and runs to seek advice from a friend, who advises him to get married immediately, before this mysterious Adelina arrives. Totò then sets out to find a wife. His first attempt, however, fails: Totò then turns to a dating agency, which by mistake sends him to the home of a married woman. To escape the wrath of her jealous husband, Totò jumps out the window, running into further trouble. When Aunt Agata arrives, Totò hires a model to pose as his wife, but the situation becomes increasingly tangled, and Totò is at a loss for a solution. But when Adelina arrives, she looks nothing like the girl in the photo…
